First Aid at Work (RQF)

This course is designed for people who want to receive our most thorough first aid training. It is most suited to those working in high-risk environments, such as building sites or warehouses.

The learner will attain knowledge and the practical competence required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations.

 

  • Meets employer’s legal obligations

  • Compliant with Resuscitation Council (UK) Guidelines

  • 3-year qualification

Syllabus

Understand the role of the first aider, including reference to:

 

  • the importance of preventing cross-infection.

  • the need for recording incidents and actions.

  • use of available equipment.

  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an Emergency.

  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure).

  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external Defibrillator.

  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.

  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding.

  • administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.

  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).

Administer First Aid to a Casualty with:

  • injuries to bones, muscles & joints, including suspected spinal injuries

  • chest injuries

  • burns and scalds

  • eye injuries

  • sudden poisoning

  • anaphylactic shock

Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including:-

  • heart attack

  • stroke

  • epilepsy

  • asthma

  • diabetes​

Assessment

The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and written assessment, and a learner must pass both assessments to be awarded the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred.

Practical Assessment

Scenarios are set recreating a real-life situation as far as possible to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment the learner will be asked set related oral questions by the trainer/assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course with the trainer/assessor making learners aware of when they are being assessed.

Written Assessment

The learner must pass a written assessment.

Blended 1 day online and & 2 Days face to face

Numbers
 

A maximum of 12 students, minimum of 6 students, minimum age 16 years old

For large groups of 6 or more please contact us as we can travel to your location

Certification
 

Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the delegate. Those delegates who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.
