First Aid at Work (RQF)
This course is designed for people who want to receive our most thorough first aid training. It is most suited to those working in high-risk environments, such as building sites or warehouses.
The learner will attain knowledge and the practical competence required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations.

Syllabus
Understand the role of the first aider, including reference to:
-
the importance of preventing cross-infection.
-
the need for recording incidents and actions.
-
use of available equipment.
-
assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an Emergency.
-
administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure).
-
administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and use of an automated external Defibrillator.
-
administer first aid to a casualty who is choking.
-
administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding.
-
administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.
-
provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters).
Administer First Aid to a Casualty with:

injuries to bones, muscles & joints, including suspected spinal injuries
-
chest injuries
-
burns and scalds
-
eye injuries
-
sudden poisoning
-
anaphylactic shock
Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid including:-

heart attack
-
stroke
-
epilepsy
-
asthma
-
diabetes
Assessment
The qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and written assessment, and a learner must pass both assessments to be awarded the qualification. There is no grading of the assessment; learners pass or are referred.
Practical Assessment
Scenarios are set recreating a real-life situation as far as possible to enable a learner to demonstrate their knowledge and practical skills. During the practical assessment the learner will be asked set related oral questions by the trainer/assessor. The practical assessment is ongoing throughout the course with the trainer/assessor making learners aware of when they are being assessed.
Written Assessment
The learner must pass a written assessment.

Certification
Certification is dependent on successful continuous assessment of the delegate. Those delegates who complete the course, and are deemed to have reached the required standard, are awarded a certificate that is valid for three years.
